Policies, Procedures & Dress Codes

Studio J Dance Academy is dedicated to providing students with an exemplary dance education in a safe and positive environment. All studio policies are in place to ensure that each student receives an equal opportunity at a quality and comprehensive education.


Parents/Guardians – please read-through the following policies with your student so they understand their responsibility at Studio J Dance Academy. We hope you enjoy the season and look forward to an exciting year!

Classroom Policy & Procedures

  • Students are not allowed in the classroom without an instructor present. 

  • Students should respect all teachers and classmates. 

  • Students should keep the studio workspace neat.

  • Students should label all belongings. 

  • Studio J Dance Academy is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • Students should not wear dance shoes outside of the studio.

  • See dress code for complete list of appropriate dance footwear.

  • No street shoes are allowed on the dance floors.

  • Students should arrive to class in proper attire and without jewelry.

  • Students should keep talking to a minimum during class time.

  • Students should use the restroom before or after class. 

  • Students are not allowed to use cell phones while in class.

  • Students should not chew gum, eat food, or have drinks in the classroom. Breaks for water will be given at the discretion of the Instructor.

The studio reserves the right to dismiss any student from class for continued interruption, misbehavior, or lack of respect for the classroom rules. If multiple instances occur a meeting will be held between the instructor, parent/guardian, and student.

Insurance

  • Studio J Dance Academy offers classes that require physical activity with risk of injury. The studio and its instructors are not responsible for any injury occurring while attempting these activities. 

  • Studio J Dance Academy doesn’t carry medical insurance for its students, all students are required to be covered by their own family insurance policies.

​Photo Policy

  • By registering with Studio J Dance Academy, I give permission for instructors and staff to take and publish photos/videos of my child. 

  • I acknowledge that if I do not wish for my child to be photographed/recorded and/or posted I must email a request to info@sjdanceacademy.com.

Attendance Policies

  • Students should arrive five (5) minutes prior to their scheduled class and should arrange to be picked up at the completion of class.

  • Studio J Dance Academy is not responsible for students once class concludes.

  • Students should stay in the studio until a parent/guardian is present.

  • A parent/guardian should notify the studio if they intend on being early or late for student drop-off and/or pick-up.

  • *If a student will not be attending class, please notify the studio, by phone or email, 24-hours prior to the start of class.*

  • Students are allowed three (3) unexcused class absences. (Unexcused is defined as not giving the studio the required prior notice.)

  • Students missing more than three (3) classes without notification are required to make up the time by scheduling a private with the instructor or by attending a similar class according to their level and age.

  • Students who feel ill, have contagious symptoms, or have a prolonged fever should stay home from class.

  • Students should not return to class until they are fever-free for 24 hours.

  • Students who are unable to dance, but feel well enough to attend class, may participate by observing.

  • In the event of a prolonged absence please notify the studio.

 

Studio J Dance Academy recognizes that class attendance is a direct correlation to student success. Instructors will be responsible for maintaining accurate class records and attendance. Students who have perfect attendance will be recognized at the recital. Please make every effort to have your child in class.

Inclement Weather

Studio J Dance Academy follows the Montville school system with regards to studio closings and closings due to inclement weather. Studio J Dance Academy will email all parents in the event that the studio is closed. You can also check Studio J's Instagram and Facebook page for more information.

Registration Policy

  • An annual, non-refundable, fee is required upon registration. 

  • Once this fee is paid, and a parent/guardian has selected a payment plan for the year, registration is confirmed and the students place is held in the class.

    • Registration Fee

      • $30.00 per student

      • $25.00 per sibling

Tuition Information 

  • Tuition is based on a full season which runs from September-June. 

  • There are three payment options available, upon registration you will be able to choose the best option suited for you.

  • The first (1st) tuition payment is due at registration.

  • Tuition is due the first (1st) of the month. 

  • By the 5th of the month if we have not received payment a $25 late fee will be added to your account and the card on file will automatically be charged the balance. 

  • Any student with an outstanding balance will not be allowed to participate in the recital.​

  • Although the number of classes per month varies, tuition remains the same each month. Students with a remaining tuition balance will not be allowed to participate in the recital. 

  • All tuition payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Tuition Payments

  • An active credit card is required to be kept on file, in addition to a pre-authorization contract, in the event that Studio J Dance Academy does not receive your payment by the applicable due date.  

  • The credit card number will be encrypted into the computer system, and there will be no permanent written documentation of the credit card number. 

  • Payments that are paid in full by the first (1st) class of the season will receive a 5% discount on their total tuition bill. ​

  • If you choose our 3 installment payment plan, payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express).

    • There will be a $35.00 charge for all returned checks. After the second (2nd) returned check, checks will no longer be accepted. 

    • The first (1st) tuition installment is due at registration, The second (2nd) installment is due January 1st, and the third (3rd) installment is due April 1st.

  • If you choose the 10 monthly installment plan an active credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover, or American Express) must be kept on file and will be charged automatically on the first (1st) of every month (September-May). The last two payments (May and June) are due together  May 1st. 

  • In the event that the credit card on file becomes inactive, the parent/guardian must place an active credit card on file with the studio on or before the next billing date. Should Studio J be unable to charge a credit card by the fifth (5th) of the month, there will be a $25 late fee added to your account.

  • Should the studio be unable to hold classes in person due to situations out of our control (example: pandemics, government closures, etc.) classes will be offered on an online platform and tuition will remain the same.

Private Lessons

  • All private lessons will be billed in full at the beginning of each month. All lessons and fees are non-refundable. If a student needs to miss their private lesson the studio must have 24 hours notice in order to makeup missed instructional time. Students have one-month from the missed lesson to makeup the time, subject to the instructor's discretion. In the event of an emergency and the notice is under 24 hours, please contact the studio immediately so arrangements can be made.

Studio J Dance Academy offers Multi-Class Discounts! 

Please note Multi-Class discounts are only available for hour-long classes.

 Discounts are given per student. We do not offer sibling discounts.

Dress Code

Pre-Ballet & Combination (Ages 3-6)

  • Solid Colored Leotard

  • Pink or White Colored Tights

  • Dance Skirt and/or Tutu (Optional)

  • Full-Sole Ballet Shoe (Pink Leather) with elastic

  • Tap or Jazz Shoes (If required)

    • Color to be set by instructor

  • Hair must be properly secured up in a bun or ponytail

 

Ballet (7+)

  • Solid Colored Leotard

  • Footed or Convertible Pink tights

  • Dance Skirt (Optional)

  • Split-Sole Ballet Shoe (Pink Leather)

  • Hair must be properly secured up in a bun or ponytail

 

Tap, Jazz, & Musical Theatre (All Ages) 

  • Leotard or Tank Top

  • Footless, Convertible, or Stirrup Tights (Tan or Black)

  • Dance Shorts or Pants

  • Split-Sole Jazz Shoes (Capezio or Bloch) without elastic 

    • Color to be set by instructor

  • Split-Sole Tap Shoes (Capezio or Bloch) in Black

  • No street clothes (Baggy pants, jeans, t-shirts, or sweatshirts)

  • Hair must be properly secured up in a bun or ponytail

 

Lyrical, Contemporary, & Modern (All Ages)

  • Leotard or Tank Top

  • Footless, Convertible, or Stirrup Tights (Tan)

  • Barefoot or Dancepaws (Teacher will specify in class) 

  • Dance Shorts or Pants

  • No street clothes (Baggy pants, jeans, t-shirts, or sweatshirts)

  • Hair must be properly secured up in a bun or ponytail

 

Hip-Hop (All Ages)

  • Comfortable and moveable fitted clothing

  • Clothes should not be revealing

  • Sneakers or Hip-Hop Shoes

 

Acro, SLT, & Conditioning (All Ages)

  • Leotard

  • Footless, Convertible, or Stirrup Tights (Tan)

  • Dance Shorts

  • Barefoot

 

Voice Privates (All Ages)

  • Comfortable and moveable fitted clothing

  • Clothes should not be revealing

  • Covered Feet – No flip-flops or sandals!

 

Dance Privates (All Ages)

  • Leotard or Tank Top

  • Footless, Convertible, or Stirrup Tights (Tan)

  • Dance Shorts or Pants

  • Appropriate Shoes (To be set by instructor)

 

Boys – Any Class/Private (All Ages)

  • Fitted T-Shirt

  • Athletic Shorts or Dance Pants

    • Shoes: Ballet (Black), Tap (Black), Jazz Shoes (Color to be set by instructor), Lyrical/Contemporary/Modern (Barefoot or Dancepaws [Teacher will specify), and Hip-Hop (Sneakers)

**Parents are responsible to attain the policies from the studio. 

Ignorance of policies is not an excuse for noncompliance.**
